Performed by Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra, Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, Hanoi Opera House and sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, Valentine Concert 2023 is a place of poetic souls to resonance, to “raise a cup” in honor of poetic joy.
Also, the voices of two top Vietnamese opera artists Dao To Loan (soprano), Nguyen Anh Vu (Tenor) joined the talented orchestra, making the concert an one-of-a-kind musical experience. Classical music lovers enjoyed every minutes of the performances such as Dance of the hours – A.Ponchielli (La Gioconda) and Vissi d’arte – Puccini (Tosca).
The combination of the Symphony Orchestra with saxophonist Nguyen Bao Long and the band JumpforJazz has become a bridge, bringing a new, refreshing atmosphere to the pieces of famous Italian composers from a long time ago.
For example, Vietnamese saxophonist Nguyen Bao Long, Italian artists Enzo Favata and Pasquale Mirra gave an emotional performance that moved the audiences.

Brilliant soundtracks of Hollywoof cinematic masterpieces were also introduced to the Hanoi’s audience at the show. “Cinema Paradiso” won the 1990 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the 1991 BAFTA Award for Best Original Score. Cinema Paradiso is currently ranked 50th by IMDB in the list of the 250 greatest films of all time. Not only listening to the orchestra play live at the Hanoi Opera House, the audience also relived the classic movie scenes played on the big screen on stage. Vietnamese violinist Trinh Minh Hien and the orchestra performed “Chi Mai”. This is a famous soundtrack, written by Ennio Morricone in 1971 for the famous movie Maddalena. It was released before Vietnam and Italy established diplomatic relations. Images of Hanoi mixed with images of the country and people of Italy in the 1970s in the background complimented the performance, bringing nostalgic feelings of the yesteryear. The closing performace of the Valentine Concert 2023 was a love confession from Italy: the soundtrack for “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). The film starring the legendary actor Clint Eastwood is in the top 10 of the 250 best movies of all time voted by IMDB. |
